Residents of Rochester demand punishment for Daniel Pond's death.
In the United States, where there have recently been mass protests following the death of George Floyd, another scandal has led to new rallies demanding an end to police violence.
About a thousand people marched through the main streets of Rochester in the American state of New York. In front of the Rochester Department of Public Security, they demanded punishment for the deaths of Daniel Pond. A black American died after being brutally detained by police in late March. This case became known to the general public last Thursday when a video of the detention was published. Since then protests have been held daily in Rochester. The state prosecutor's office is investigating the actions of the police who detained the Pond.
“We are preparing a detailed report on police actions. When you see it, make sure law enforcement followed all instructions and the chief of police did everything to ensure justice,” said Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren.
“I want to express my condolences to the family of the deceased. His death is already changing the rules of our work. And we plan to do everything we can to prevent such cases from happening again in the future,” Rochester Police Chief Laron Singletary said.
Earlier we reported that in Lafayette, Louisiana, police shot and killed a black man, Trayford P. when he was apprehended. The city's police said they received information about an armed man with a knife who was in a parking lot. At first, they tried to detain him with a taser, but when the man rushed to the supermarket, they opened fire.
