Silvio Berlusconi contracted coronavirus

The former Italian Prime Minister, leader of the Forza Italia party, Silvio Berlusconi, has contracted the coronavirus, according to the newspaper La Repubblica. The 83-year-old politician was tested for COVID-19 after returning from the Italian island of Sardinia, and the results were positive.

According to the former prime minister's attending physician, the disease is asymptomatic, writes RBC. The leader of the Forza Italia party has been isolated in his villa in the town of Arcore in the Monza e Brianza province of the Lombardy region, where he continues to work, Il Messaggero reports, citing the Forza Italia press service.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov expressed confidence that if Berlusconi needs help, Vladimir Putin “will give the necessary instructions.”

In April 2019, Berlusconi was hospitalized for renal colic. In 2016, the politician underwent heart valve replacement surgery.

Silvio Berlusconi served as the Italian Prime Minister intermittently for about eight years. He left office in 2011 after parliament voted for a budget that would meet EU requirements.

A number of scandals have been associated with Berlusconi. So, in 2013, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for having an affair with a minor prostitute Karima al-Marg, nicknamed Ruby. In 2014, the defense of the ex-prime minister achieved the cancellation of the sentence. Berlusconi was also accused of bribing witnesses. And in 2015, he received three years in prison for bribing senators.

In addition, the former Italian prime minister paid women who worked at parties with prostitutes in his villa near Milan, as well as guests for silence about what was happening there. According to the investigation, he spent 10 million euros for these purposes. And one of the witnesses in the case of sex parties died under strange circumstances. A version was put forward that she was poisoned using radioactive substances.

Berlusconi and Putin have a long-standing friendship, which was not destroyed even by the sanctions and the cooling of relations between the Russian Federation and the European Union after the annexation of Crimea. In 2017, the Italian politician arrived in Sochi on a private visit and congratulated Putin on his birthday. Berlusconi presented the Russian president with an intimate gift — a duvet cover with their common photo.

“81-year-old Berlusconi came up with the idea of a personalized duvet cover after Putin gave him a double bed, on which, according to prostitute Patricia D'Addario, she had sex with a discredited Italian in 2008,” The Times sarcastically.
