Former New York Mayor 77-year-old billionaire Michael Bloomberg has filed for registration as a candidate from the US Democratic Party in the primary election in Alabama. This was reported on the website of the representative office of the Democratic Party in Alabama.

US President Donald Trump, in turn, said that Michael Bloomberg would only hurt former US Vice President Joseph Biden if he enters the presidential race on the side of the Democratic Party. The American leader expressed this opinion during a conversation with reporters on the South Lawn of the White House before flying to Georgia.

“I have known Michael (Bloomberg) for a long time if you look back ... He said a lot of good things about Trump ... He became just nothing ... He will not succeed. I think he really will harm Biden ... Little Michael will fail “Trump said.

“There is no one against whom I would like to run against more than against little Michael,” the American leader added.

The start of the election campaign in the United States will be given on February 3 in Iowa, where the country's first caucuses will be held — meetings of party activists at which delegates will be elected first at local party conferences of Democrats and Republicans, then at a state conference, and then at national congresses. In the state of New Hampshire on February 11, the country's first primary elections will be held, which differ from the pre-election meetings in that they elect delegates immediately to the national congress.

The name of Trump’s rival in the presidential campaign will be known at the National Congress of the Democratic Party, which will be held July 13-16, 2020 in Milwaukee (Wisconsin). Republicans will hold their election congress from August 24 to 27, 2020 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On election day, a presidential candidate will need to enlist the votes of 270 members of an electoral college of 538 members to win. In accordance with the tradition existing since 1937, the inauguration of the new US president will take place at noon on January 20, 2021.

As we already wrote, the former vice president of Joe Biden is considered the main rival of Trump. According to a poll by The Hill, among all Democratic candidates, he has the support of 35% of the party’s electorate.
