An offer to purchase the American segment of the social network TikTok for $20 billion was prepared by the American social network Triller and the investment company Centricus, Thriller chairman Bobby Sarnevesht said on August 28, Reuters reported.
Sarnevesti said the proposal was passed directly to the head of TikTok. In response, confirmation was received that it had been received and that the proposal was pending. TikTok and its parent Chinese company ByteDance said they have not received any offers from Triller so far.
Recall that US President Donald Trump, by his decree, gave ByteDance 45 days to sell the American segment of TikTok. Otherwise, her work will be prohibited. The American authorities explain their actions by fears that ByteDance may transfer personal data of users to the Chinese communist authorities. If the network belongs to an American company, this risk will be leveled.
Microsoft and Oracle have already shown interest in buying the American part of TikTok. ByteDance has estimated the US network segment at $30 billion.
TikTok is designed to share short videos to music that you can create in the app itself on your mobile phone. The number of social media users in the United States has grown from 11.3 million in 2018 to over 100 million in August 2020.
Triller is in many ways analogous to TikTok.
