Iran ranks 30th in the world for gold production

The production of gold bars in Iran for 8 years (from 2011 to 2020) has grown 14 times from 850 kg to 12 tons. This was stated on Tuesday by the deputy head of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade of Iran, Dariush Ismaily, reports IRNA.

“With the opening of a new gold mine in Sanandaj province, Iran has risen to 30th place in the world and 10th in Asia for the production of gold bars,” Ismaily said at the ceremony of opening a gold mine in Kurdestan province. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took part in the ceremony through video conferences.

“During this period, 3 tons of gold worth $180 million were exported from Iran,” Ismaily said, adding that over the past Iranian year (ended March 20, 2020), the country spent $93 million on gold imports.

According to him, today the state gold reserves amount to about 50 thousand tons. “Iran's gold reserves are 320 tons, this figure may increase to 400 tons,” he said.

According to him, 37 gold exploration projects are currently being carried out in Iran. “In the near future, Iran's gold reserves will reach 3200 tons,” he said.
