NATO spokesman Oana Lungescu said that the military exercises of the North Atlantic Alliance in the Baltic region are not related to the situation in Belarus.
“Our deployment in the Baltic region on the territory of NATO allies is defensive in nature and preceded the crisis in Belarus,” she stressed.
According to Lungesku, the alliance plans in advance the exercises and training processes, as well as the deployment of the NATO AWACS reconnaissance and guidance aircraft to support American and Polish F-16 fighters during the exercises.
Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that NATO had deployed about 20 American fighters to the borders of the republic.
