During a conversation between the two presidents, issues related to domestic politics was raised.
One of the assistants to the Vice President of the United States of America, Michael Pence, informed congressmen that the July telephone conversation between American leader Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, in her opinion, was different from ordinary conversations of this kind. This was announced on Thursday by CNN.
As he notes, we are talking about Jennifer Williams, who previously worked in the US State Department, and is now an employee of the office of the US Vice President. She allegedly heard the indicated conversation of Trump and Zelensky on the phone. Williams at a private meeting with lawmakers in the course of the investigation of the impeachment of the US president said that she considered this conversation of leaders unusual, since during it issues related to domestic politics, and not foreign ones, were touched upon. She clarified that she did not notify the authorities about this.
Williams also said that Pence never spoke in her presence about alleged attempts to start an investigation in Ukraine against former US Vice President Joseph Biden and his son.
Earlier, US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland at a closed meeting of three House committees as part of the investigation into the impeachment of President Donald Trump said that US officials, including high-ranking officials, should have discussed the White House’s policy towards Ukraine directly with the personal lawyer of US President Rudolph Giuliani.
His testimony emphasized the main role of Giuliani in the scandal with Ukraine. Before Trump’s July phone call to the Ukrainian president, Giuliani worked to persuade Ukraine to investigate Biden.
