A chlorine leak occurred at a chemical plant in southwestern Louisiana after Hurricane Laura hit the Gulf Coast. This was announced on Thursday by the local TV channel KPLC.
At the moment, employees of the state's specialized services, together with the leaders of the plant, are trying to localize the leak.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards tweeted that people near the scene should not leave their location, close windows, and doors, and turn off air conditioners.
He added that people should not go out and should wait for “additional instructions from local authorities.”
As specified in the police, the incident occurred at the chemical plant of BioLab. Some roads near the plant were closed due to the effects of the hurricane.
The chemical plant produces cleaning agent components. As local media reported earlier, a fire broke out at the enterprise.
