The Prime Minister of the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwezig, reaffirmed the commitment of the regional authorities to the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project. During discussions in the Landtag (state parliament) on Thursday, Deutsche Welle reported that the pipeline is important for the future energy supply of Germany.
The prime minister stressed that the government of the land opposes the attempts of the United States to prescribe to Germany, “where and by what route to get energy.” “We are firmly committed to building a gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea,” she quoted Deutsche Welle as saying. In turn, a member of the Left Party faction in the Landtag Karsten Kolbe said that “blackmail has no place in world trade.” According to him, Nord Stream 2 “must be completed and put into operation in accordance with the established procedure.”
