Earlier, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the US policy on Ukraine correct but now notes that Washington supported the new government in Kyiv and helped in the fight against corruption and the establishment of democracy. He said this in an interview with one of the American radio stations, the text of which is published on the website of the State Department.
According to him, the United States has focused on several things with regard to Ukraine, one of which is the fight against corruption.
"Firstly, this is a country with a deep history of corruption, and our mission, the mission of the ambassador (USA), the mission of Volker (the State Department’s special representative for Ukraine. - Ed.) Was very clear, it was to create a set of tools for the new leadership, President Zelensky and the team around him were able to fulfill what they said during their (election) campaign, which was supposed to reduce the risk of corruption, "said Pompeo.
He noted that when Russia captured Crimea and invaded the Donbas, former US President Barack Obama did not provide assistance to Ukraine.
"President Trump has consistently - not once, not twice, but thrice - provided weapons systems to the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian leadership. We provided them with technical assistance, which the previous administration refused to provide. We actively helped the Ukrainian people, and we were together in the State Department are focused, like a laser, on conveying to the president how we can help pro-Western Ukraine, which will preserve democracy, liberty, and freedom in Ukraine and Europe, as well as protect Americans, " US Secretary of State erknul.
