What is Trump going to the polls with?

The United States is hosting the National Convention of the Republican Party, at which the current head of state, Donald Trump, will be formally nominated for the presidency.

The US presidential race is entering the home stretch. The Democrats have already officially named Joe Biden as their candidate. Republicans will finally nominate Trump on Thursday.

The Democratic Party convention turned into open persecution of the incumbent president. How will the Republicans respond?

Trump convention

The Republican National Convention is formally held simultaneously in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jacksonville, Florida.

Such party congresses are held every four years. The current one will last four days, from 24 to 27 August. However, due to the pandemic, large meetings will not be held anywhere, and Trump himself will participate in the congress remotely.

Trump will deliver his speech at the White House on Thursday, in which he will formally accept the GOP proposal to run for president of the United States.

In addition to Trump, it is expected that his wife Melania and other family members, US Vice President Mike Pence and invited guests will also perform.

The Democrats held their convention last week, nominally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but in reality completely remotely. Their nominee Joe Biden accepted the nomination last Thursday.

Starting odds

In national opinion polls, Biden is gaining a stable majority.

Most states almost always vote the same, which means that only a few states actually have a chance of winning both candidates. In these places, the fate of the elections is decided.

Opinion polls show that Biden has a leading position in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — three industrial states in which his Republican rival won by less than 1% in 2016.

But it is the key states that Trump won by a wide margin in 2016 that are the most worried about his campaign team today. His lead in Iowa, Ohio, and Texas was then 8-10%, but now he is on par with Biden in all three states.

These numbers may help explain his decision to replace his campaign manager in July and his regular references to “fake polls.”

Bookmakers, however, have not yet written off Trump. The latest bets still give him roughly one in three chances of winning on November 3.

US law enforcement has detained former Trump adviser Steve Bannon in the case of We Build The Wall, a non-profit organization created in 2019 to collect donations to build a wall on the US-Mexico border. Bannon is the chairman of the organization's advisory board. According to the Office of the Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Bannon embezzled some donations the organization received. In total, more than $25 million was transferred to her. Bannon allegedly received over a million dollars.

It was the story of the construction of the wall on the border with Mexico that was the basis of Donald Trump's election campaign in 2016.

Most American pop stars are now up in arms against Trump. The young American singer Billie Eilish went farthest. She spoke at the National Convention of the Democratic Party of the United States — and called for voting for the Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the presidential election.

“You don't need me to figure out what's going on in a mess. Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything that matters to us. We need leaders who address issues like climate change and COVID-19, not deny them. Leaders who will fight against systemic racism and inequality. It all starts with voting for someone who understands how much is at stake, someone who creates a team that shares our values. It all starts with a vote against Donald Trump and for Joe Biden, ”called Billie Eilish.
