Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called the situation in Belarus a “Gordian knot”, on whose decision the future of Central Europe depends. He said this during the opening of the forum “Vision for Development” in Polish Gdynia.
“Now it is an inflammatory point. The future of Central Europe depends on how we decide this “Gordian knot”, Morawiecki is sure.
In his opinion, the success of Central Europe depends on the solidarity of the region's countries on the Belarusian issue.
“Since today we are building this solidarity around Belarus together with Lithuania and other Baltic countries and the Visegrad Group, and in the future, I hope that together with Belarus and Ukraine we will shape the future of Central Europe,” Morawiecki said.
The head of the Polish government said that he invited the leaders of the Polish opposition to discuss the situation in Belarus together and work out a common position on it.
Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said he had brought the country's armed forces on full alert, citing as the reason for such a decision the “movement” of NATO troops near the borders with the republic, implying the borders with Lithuania and Poland.
He also accused Western countries of providing military support through NATO to the “alternative president”.
