The European Union strongly condemns the alleged attempt on the life of Russian opposition activist Alexey Navalny and looks forward to an "independent and transparent" investigation from Moscow. This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Joseph Borrel on the evening of Monday, August 24, reports Deutsche Welle.
"It is absolutely necessary that the Russian authorities immediately initiate an independent and transparent investigation into the poisoning of Mr. Navalny. The Russian people, as well as the international community, demand that the facts behind Navalny's poisoning be presented," Borrel said.
He recalled the poisonings of the Russian oppositionist discovered by specialists of the Charite clinic in Berlin and stressed that the perpetrators must be brought to justice.
We remind that on August 20, Alexey Navalny felt ill on board the Tomsk-Moscow plane and was taken directly from there to the hospital in Omsk, where he was in critical care. There, doctors diagnosed him with metabolic disorders.
