The US wants to prevent Russian interference in the situation in Belarus

The leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya will meet with US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Bigan in Lithuania on Monday. They plan to discuss ways to resolve the crisis in Belarus, whose authorities had previously announced the arrest of “one of the coordinators of illegal street actions.” This was reported by her team, reports Reuters.

As the agency notes, the American diplomat will stop in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius on his way to Moscow, where he is heading because of Washington's aspirations to peacefully settle the Belarusian crisis and prevent Russian interference.

Recall that Alexander Lukashenko's rival in the presidential elections in Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said in an interview on the territory of Lithuania, where she fled earlier, that she was not going to return to her homeland until she felt safe. According to her, it is impossible while Lukashenka is in power.

At the same time, on August 22, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that the country's armed forces were on full combat readiness due to the “stirring” of NATO troops near the borders of the republic.

On August 22, a protest action was held in the capital of Belarus Minsk on August 22, in which about three thousand people took part. The protests have been going on for 14 days.
