Venezuela ready to take part in the tests of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V. The country has also offered to produce the drug on its territory, Vice President Delsey Rodriguez said during a meeting of the COVID-19 Commission.
In addition to the Russian vaccine, Venezuela is ready to produce and test drugs developed in China and Cuba. According to Rodriguez, the republic's authorities have already contacted China and Russia on this issue and are now negotiating with Cuba.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro added that the country is “ready to immediately join the trials” of the Cuban vaccine.
The head of the Ministry of Health, Carlos Alvarado, who was present at the meeting, in turn, said that vaccines from China, Russia, the United States, and Great Britain are the main ones in the third phase of research.
For testing the Russian drug, Venezuela, according to Alvarado, offered the participation of 500 volunteers.
“Sputnik V” remains the only registered coronavirus vaccine in the world. It was developed at the Gamaleya Center. The third phase of drug trials will take place during mass vaccinations, the developers said.
