On the initiative of the Finnish side, a telephone conversation took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on the situation in Belarus. This was reported by the Kremlin press service.
вЂњDuring the discussion of the situation in Belarus, Vladimir Putin confirmed his well-known position, emphasizing, in particular, the unacceptability of interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state and attempts to exert external pressure on the legitimate authorities. Both sides expressed interest in the soonest normalization of the situation in the republic, вЂќ the statement says.
Earlier, during a meeting with members of the RF Security Council, Putin discussed the situation in Belarus and announced: вЂњa series of international telephone contactsвЂќ that took place this week because of the situation in the neighboring country. The head of the Kremlin emphasized the вЂњunacceptability of any outside interferenceвЂќ in the affairs of Belarus.
Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei appealed to the foreign ministers of the EU countries because of the threat of sanctions. In Belarus, such actions of the EU were regarded as вЂњdamage to the sovereigntyвЂќ of the country.
