The World Health Organization hopes to end the coronavirus pandemic in less than two years.
WHO head Tedros Ghebreyesus noted during the briefing that the Spanish flu pandemic that broke out in 1918 lasted the same length, Sky News reports.
He noted that COVID-19 may spread faster, but “we have the technology and the knowledge to stop it.”
Gebreyesus added that in many countries the dynamics of morbidity decreased, but “progress does not mean victory.”
Gebreyesus also believes that the invention of a vaccine against the coronavirus is not enough to finally overcome the pandemic. He added that “we need to make adjustments to our daily lives to keep ourselves and others safe.”
WHO has previously stated that there is no need to re-quarantine to combat COVID-19. Experts are confident that “February will not happen again” since the countries are better prepared.
