EU interested in democratic transition in Belarus
The European Union is interested in a democratic transition period in Belarus, negotiations between the authorities and the opposition, and the organization of new elections. However, the EU does not want events to develop according to the Ukrainian scenario.
This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, France TV reports.
“We do not want a repetition of what happened, in particular, in Ukraine,” he said.
It should be reminded that mass protests have been going on in Belarus for more than ten days due to possible falsification of the presidential election results. According to the CEC, incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko won, but many citizens and the opposition believe that in fact, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya won the majority of votes.
Earlier it was reported that the EU is ready to act as a mediator to resolve the political crisis in Belarus.
In addition, the Belarusian opposition called on the military and security officials to go over to the side of the protesters and promised them safety and immunity.
