Madam Chancellor demands an explanation of what happened to the Russian oppositionist
The leaders of France and Germany are ready to provide the necessary assistance to Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was hospitalized today with suspicion of acute poisoning. Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel announced this on August 20 at a joint press conference.
"As for Mr. Navalny, we are extremely concerned and saddened by this situation," Macron said, adding that he was ready to provide assistance to the Russian opposition leader and his relatives.
"We are ready to provide all the necessary assistance to Alexei Navalny and his family in terms of health, shelter, and protection," Macron said, stressing that France "is on Navalny's side."
Merkel, in turn, demanded an explanation for the incident.
"We will demand an explanation as to the conditions under which the poisoning occurred," she said.
Madam Chancellor added that Navalny can receive medical assistance in Germany or France.
Recall that Alexei Navalny became sharply ill right on board the passenger liner during the flight from Tomsk to Moscow on August 20. For this reason, the plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, where he was hospitalized.
An examination of the brain of the Russian oppositionist found no serious damage to him. The only deviation from the norm, which the doctors point out, is moderate swelling of the mucous membrane, which may be caused by dysfunction of the auditory tube or an inflammatory process. Despite this, Navalny is still in a consistently serious condition - he is in a deep coma.
