For three years, selected residents of the country will be paid gratuitous benefits as part of the study.
An experiment is starting in Germany with a free monthly payment of 1,200 euros to candidates selected through a competition. The aim of the study is to test how recipients of monetary rewards will behave and how it will change their daily habits. This was announced on Wednesday, August 19, by the DPA agency with reference to the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW).
The idea is reportedly born out of a quarantine experience, with citizens demanding monthly benefits from the government as many of them lost their jobs.
It is assumed that the 120 lucky ones will be selected from the one million candidates who are eligible for age 18 and over and reside in Germany. The selection of candidates has already begun, and the experiment itself will continue for three years. The project is supposed to be financed from donations.
“Scientists intend to conduct periodic surveys to determine how additional money affects the daily life of participants. It is about work, finance, family, social contacts, and possible mental changes. It is even planned to take hair samples to assess the stress level of the participants, ” the explanation says.
It is specified that each of the 120 participants will receive a total of 43,200 euros “clean”.
Earlier, the UN called for a temporary basic income for the poorest people in developing countries. According to the authors of the idea, such a measure will enable almost three billion people to buy food and pay for health and education costs. Funding for this measure is estimated at $199 billion per month.
