A Hong Kong resident who recovered from COVID-19 four months ago contracted a new type of coronavirus again during a trip to Europe.
Doctors have begun investigating this case.
According to microbiologist Yuen Kwok-Yun of the University of Hong Kong, the 33-year-old man had “a fairly high viral load” for the second time.
The scientist did not rule out that the patient was re-infected during a recent trip to Spain, where the virus could mutate, and the weak immune system malfunctioned and did not cope with the COVID-19 infection, without ensuring the continued production of antibodies. At the same time, during the retesting, the patient did not show symptoms of the disease.
Earlier we wrote that Oxford is starting human trials of a coronavirus vaccine. Germany is also starting to test the COVID-19 vaccine in humans. In the United States, human trials of the vaccine began back in March.
