The U.S. House of Representatives has adopted a set of basic rules regarding the impeachment procedure of President Donald Trump, AP reported on October 31.
This is the first official vote on the impeachment proceedings initiated by the Democratic Party.
In support of the relevant resolution, 232 members of the House of Representatives spoke out, 196 were against. All congressmen from the Republican Party and two Democrats voted against.
The vote set the next steps in the investigation into possible impeachment, as lawmakers go from weeks of closed interviews with witnesses to public hearings and, ultimately, to possible votes on whether Trump’s removal should be recommended.
The resolution requires the intelligence, financial services, foreign affairs, oversight and reform, income and expense committees, and legal committees to continue the investigation. Their goal, according to the resolution, is to find out if there are sufficient grounds for the House of Representatives to use the constitutional powers to impeach President Donald Trump.
