US to extend sanitary measures after COVID-19 vaccine appears

The US authorities will not be able to immediately lift sanitary measures in the country after receiving the vaccine against the new coronavirus. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases, said in an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday.

Even after an effective vaccine appears in the country, he explained, “some attention will be required to public health measures.” According to the specialist, immediately after the appearance of this drug, it will not be possible to “forget about everything, do whatever you want without worrying about recommendations regarding health care.”

“I think this will eventually be the case, but it won't happen immediately after the vaccine is available,” Fauci added. As he noted, “it will take some time to build up general immunity.” “This will not happen in the first couple of months after the vaccine appears,” said the chief US infectious disease specialist.

According to Johns Hopkins University, which calculates based on information from federal and local authorities, more than 5.46 million cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the United States, over 171.3 thousand people have died.
