
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 was recorded on Wednesday off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. This was announced by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.
The epicenter was 423 km west of the city of Palembang (the administrative center of the South Sumatra province, population about 1.4 million people). The focus was located at a depth of 40 km.
The destruction and casualties, as well as the threat of a tsunami, were not reported.
