US President assures Washington is following events in Belarus
In Belarus, where security officials literally kidnap and torture detained participants of mass protests against President Alexander Lukashenko, a terrible situation has developed.
This, according to Reuters, before leaving for the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin on August 17, said US President Donald Trump.
He assured that the United States is closely following the events in Belarus.
Let us remind you that since August 9, when the presidential elections were held in Belarus, the country has been engulfed in mass protests against falsifications and the announcement of Alexander Lukashenko as the next president. And on August 16, in the center of Minsk, the opposition Freedom March was held, which, according to various estimates, gathered up to 220 thousand people.
In response to the beatings of the demonstrators, Washington threatened Minsk with sanctions — Secretary of State Michael Pompeo allowed the suspension of oil supplies to Belarus in connection with the events in this country. The head of the State Department promised that the official reaction of the United States would be worked out jointly with the European Union.
The EU, in turn, decided to recognize the elections in Belarus as rigged and to start developing individual sanctions.
