US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin before the presidential elections in November 2020. This was reported by NBC News with reference to its own sources on Sunday, August 16.
At the meeting, Russia and the United States may extend the agreement on the limitation of strategic offensive arms (START III). Sources say Trump is keen to show voters that he is capable of reaching agreements.
It is also noted that Trump has already informed his aides about his intention to hold a meeting with Putin before November 3 — the date of the US elections.
The agreement on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive arms (START III) expires in 2021 and its extension can be viewed by Trump as an opportunity to strengthen his position in the struggle for the presidency.
