National strike announced in Belarus

It is difficult to estimate the number of protesters in Minsk, as columns with tens of thousands of people are everywhere, opposition Telegram channels write.

Protesters in Belarus announced the beginning of a nationwide strike from August 17 until the people's demands are met. This was reported by the Nexta Live Telegram channel on Sunday, August 16.

In particular, at the protests, they demand to hold fair elections in the country and express dissatisfaction with the falsifications and the victory of President Alexander Lukashenko.

At the same time, protests in Minsk will continue after the Freedom March. The protesters from 17:00 will walk from the Stele along Pobediteley Avenue to GUM, after which they will return to Independence Square.

Note that about 200 thousand people have gathered in the chain of solidarity in Minsk, the Nasha Niva newspaper writes.

“It is impossible to estimate the number of demonstrators in the center of Minsk. Columns with tens of thousands of people are just everywhere. Tens of thousands of Lukashenka’s opponents have already gathered in the center. There are especially many of them near the stele“ Minsk — Hero City ”,” the statement said.

“A lot of people are now in the area of Yakub Kolas Square. They are carrying a 30-meter flag. People are chanting:” Go away, go away! “Adds NEXTA.

At the same time, protests are taking place in other cities — Brest, Grodno, Zhlobin, and Borisov.

Let us remind you that earlier today a rally in support of Lukashenka was held in Minsk. Several thousand people attended the rally for Alexander Lukashenko.

Then Lukashenka spoke to his supporters. Alexander Lukashenko said that he opposes the rallies because that is how the Belarusians “destroyed what was given to us by God — the empire.”
