It is not profitable for Europe to buy liquefied gas from the US

The energy Minister of the German region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern said that it is not profitable for Europe to buy liquefied natural gas from the US, which Washington calls an alternative to Russian fuel.

As Pegel explained, American gas must first be turned into a liquid, then transported to Germany, which can make it more expensive than Russian gas. The Minister expressed the opinion that “ the true fear of the United States is that their prices may not stand up to the competition.”

Pegel noted that the United States is trying to prevent the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, but all participants in the project intend to finish it.

Earlier, 24 States of the European Union protested to the state Department in connection with the US pressure on the participants of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. The EU considers the extraterritorial application of sanctions a violation of international law.

We will add that the German company Uniper, which is one of the partners of “SP-2”, admitted that due to the new us sanctions, the implementation of the project may be delayed.

Recall that the construction of the gas pipeline, which will deliver 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany, is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year or in the first quarter of next year.
