A group of Federal Bureau of Investigation officers will arrive in Beirut this weekend to take part in establishing the circumstances of the explosion, the Associated Press reported.
“We need to ensure that a thorough, transparent, and credible investigation is carried out,” said United States Undersecretary of State David Hale. He noted that the bureau had invited the Lebanese authorities to join the investigation.
We will remind, on August 4, a powerful explosion thundered in the port of Beirut, at least 170 people died, more than five thousand were injured.
The Lebanese Interior Ministry said that the cause of the tragedy was the ignition of 2.7 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate that occurred during the welding work.
