In China, a city of the future will appear, which will be created taking into account all the features of life in the midst of an epidemic. The design will be done by Guallart Architects. Writes about this ArchDaily.
Xian will be built 100 kilometers from Beijing. It will combine a traditional European layout, modern Chinese high-rise buildings, and an agricultural landscape. “We can no longer design cities and buildings and pretend that nothing (we are talking about the coronavirus pandemic) did happen,” the creators said.
Greenhouses will be placed on the roofs of all houses, where they will grow food and at the same time receive energy from solar panels. On the first floor, coworking spaces will be equipped, 3D printers will be installed and waste recycling will be organized. Each building will collect rainwater and purify it before drinking.
“We developed the project during the self-isolation regime when our entire team worked from home, and we decided to include all those aspects that could make our life better in quarantine,” said the architects.
The buildings will be erected from wooden structures using design technologies. The city will have residential properties, offices, swimming pools, shops, food markets, a kindergarten, an administration, a fire station, and other facilities. Each section of Xiongan will be made as functional as possible.
