Voting in the parliamentary elections in the Bolivarian Republic is scheduled for December 6 this year.
The United States, the European Union, the majority of the Lima Group, and the member countries of the International Contact Group on Venezuela allowed the easing of sanctions against the republic, subject to political progress in it. This is stated in a general statement released on Friday, August 14, by the US State Department.
“We emphasize the readiness of all countries that are implementing economic sanctions to discuss easing them in the context of political progress,” the document says.
In this regard, the mentioned countries call on the Venezuelan authorities to create a transitional government, which “will lead the country to free and fair presidential elections.”
“The elections to the National Assembly are not a political way out and can only polarize an already divided society more strongly,” the statement said.
Let us remind you that parliamentary elections in the republic are scheduled for December 6 this year.
Earlier, the EU expanded the sanctions list for Venezuela, adding 11 officials and parliamentarians to it. In response, the republic expelled the head of the EU Delegation to Caracas, Isabel Brillante Pedroso.
