Moscow offered Washington “unprecedented cooperation” and assistance in developing a vaccine against coronavirus, but the United States refused Russia's offer. Writes about this CNN with reference to unnamed Russian officials.
Moscow is said to have directed the Operation Supersonic Speed project to accelerate the development of a vaccine against COVID-19. However, the US was “closed to Russian medical advances,” Washington officials said. “On the American side, there is a general feeling of mistrust in Russia, and we believe that technologies, including vaccines, testing, and treatment are not accepted in the United States because of this mistrust,” the TV channel quoted the Russian official as saying.
According to US officials, the Russian vaccine is considered so flawed in the US that it did not even generate much interest before it was registered. “There is not the slightest chance that the US will test the Russian vaccine on monkeys, let alone humans,” said one US government health official.
Russian officials, in turn, said that Moscow was open to sharing information about the vaccine and urged Washington to consider adopting it, as it could save American lives. “If our vaccine turns out to be one of the most effective, then there will be questions why the US did not investigate this option more deeply, why politics got in the way of access to the vaccine,” concluded an anonymous Russian interlocutor.
