European Parliament President David Sassoli called on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to stop violence in the country and release the detainees. He wrote about this on his Twitter.
“I call on President Lukashenko to stop the violence and immediately release the detainees. The inhabitants of Belarus have the right to protest. The use of brute force by the state authorities should have consequences in accordance with international law,” he said.
Let us remind you that the former President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite called on President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to resign, calling him “a dictator with bloody hands.”
As previously reported, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell considers the change in policy and the cessation of violence a condition for the development of relations between Belarus and the EU and calls on the Belarusian authorities to settle the situation in the country.
It was also reported that the US State Department allowed the introduction of sanctions against Belarus.
