Ian Brackenbury Channel, a resident of Christchurch, New Zealand, is officially employed as a wizard and receives a salary for his work.
It is noted that Channel has been working in this position for about 20 years and receives 10,400 dollars a year for his work. Reported by CNN.
Before starting to work as a wizard, Channel worked as a teacher, but his passion for magic did not allow him to stay in one place for a long time.
After the divorce from his wife, the New Zealander put on a robe, put on a hat, took a staff and began performing on city streets.
Soon the townspeople got used to him and began to call him simply the Wizard. It is believed by many to have helped cause rain during a severe drought in 1988.
In the early 90s, Channel became the official wizard of New Zealand, Antarctica, and other areas.
Local authorities note that the 87-year-old Wizard's services include helping to promote local events and tourism, as well as welcoming dignitaries and delegations.
In 2009, the Wizard received the Queen's Service Medal, one of the highest awards in New Zealand.
