Lebanon publishes new data on the number of victims of bombings in Beirut

The death toll in a series of explosions in Beirut has reached 171 people. More than 6 thousand people were injured, 300 thousand people were left homeless.

This was reported on Tuesday by the Lebanese newspaper Daily Star with reference to the country's Ministry of Health.

Previously, there were data on about 160 victims.

On Tuesday at 18:08 local time — exactly one week after the explosions — in the churches and mosques of the Lebanese capital, prayers were called to the memory of the tragedy.

As you know, on 4 August a powerful explosion took place in the seaport of Beirut. The tragedy was caused by the detonation of 2.7 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate stored in the warehouse, confiscated by the customs services several years ago and unloaded from the Rhosus ship, the actual owner of which is Russian businessman Igor Grechushkin.

After the disastrous explosion in Beirut, powerful protests erupted. The demonstrations escalated into riots.
