Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that the EU should discuss sanctions against Belarus in response to the actions of the country's authorities against the opposition and protesters. This was announced on August 10 by the portal delfi.
“The dynamics are such that we must seriously talk about sanctions against Belarus because what is happening now, even from afar, does not look like repression, the regime has been carrying out in recent years,” the publication quotes the President of Lithuania.
“We cannot turn a blind eye to this,” added Nauseda.
According to him, cooperation between Lithuania and the Belarusian authorities will depend on the situation with human rights.
Earlier, Lithuanian President Nauseda, together with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda, condemned the violence of the security forces against the protesters.
