Upon arrival at the place of the call, the police tried to persuade the man to release the hostage and throw a knife. As a result, they had to open fire.
The Salt Lake City Police Department, USA, published a video of the execution of a criminal, filmed with a policeman's chest camera. The Daily Mail reports.
The incident took place on 25 July. The police were called by the shop owners, who said that two drunk men had fought in the shop and continued the fight on the street.
When the police arrived at the scene, one of the fighting men, 34-year-old Andrew Jacob Pierce, grabbed the other and held a knife to his throat.
The police pointed their guns at Pierce and tried to persuade him to throw the knife. When the offender turned sideways, the policeman shot him. The hostage managed to escape, and the police fired several more bullets at the attacker. He died on the spot from his wounds.
The victim was repeatedly tried. In March, he underwent compulsory psychiatric treatment after a shoplifting incident. In April, he was arrested for possession of heroin, released on bail, and on the same day attempted to rob a fast-food restaurant.
