At the end of July, the Wakashio tanker with 4 thousand tons of petroleum products on Board crashed off the coast of Mauritius.
Just a few days ago, the tanker started leaking fuel. This is reported by AFP.
The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jagnaut, asked for help from the French government because the island can not independently remove the sunken tanker and eliminate the oil spill.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that the government will provide the necessary assistance to Mauritius.
The Wakashio tanker ran aground off the South-Eastern part of the island of Mauritius, where beaches and vulnerable mangrove ecosystems are located.
The oil spill was caused by cracks in the tanker's hull.
