The United States intends to deploy its additional forces in eastern Syria to protect oil fields. It is reported by Al Jazeera.

The Pentagon said that the strengthening will be carried out in coordination with the Syrian democratic forces led by the Kurds to prevent the oil fields from falling into the hands of ISIS.

“The United States is committed to strengthening our position in coordination with partners from the SDS in northeastern Syria with additional military assets to prevent deposits from falling into the hands of ISIS or other destabilizing parties,” the Pentagon said in a statement.

Also on Thursday, October 24, US President Donald Trump wrote in social networks that the US “will never allow ISIS to take control of these areas.”

Trump's statement contradicts his recent decision to withdraw troops from northeastern Syria, which allowed Turkey to begin its military operation in the region.

In addition, former U.S. Special Representative for the fight against ISIS, Brett McGurk criticized Trump's aforementioned message.

“The US president seems to be calling for Kurds to mass migrate to the desert, where they can settle in a tiny oil field. Shocking ignorance of history, geography, rights, American values, human decency, and honor,” wrote McGurk.

Earlier, Trump also said that a “small number” of US troops would remain in Syria. But according to U.S. media reports, deployment to protect fields may include tanks and hundreds of soldiers.
