The young Britons, one 17-year-old, the others aged between 18 and 19, were detained by security guards and escorted to the carabinieri barracks. Young people received a fine for trespassing on the territory of the monument.
They made their way to the Colosseum's archaeological Park by climbing through a gate near the Arch of Titus. Four English tourists, aged 17, 18 and 19, were discovered by private security officers and taken to the carabinieri barracks in Piazza Venezia.
The incident occurred at dawn yesterday.
For non-compliance with the ban on unauthorized entry into archaeological areas, the British were fined a total of 1,600 euros.
No damage to the archaeological heritage was found.
