Residents of Melbourne are also prohibited from leaving their homes for more than five kilometers for shopping, allowed no more than an hour of outdoor sports.
The authorities of the Australian state of Victoria declared a state of disaster due to the coronavirus. This was reported on Sunday, August 2, 2020, by the British edition of the Guardian, with reference to the statement of the Governor of Victoria, Daniel Andrews.
The most severe restrictions are imposed in the state capital, Melbourne, the second-largest city in Australia. Since August 2, anti-epidemic restrictions of the fourth level have been introduced there, providing for a curfew from 20.00 to 5.00.
The measures will be in effect until at least September 13. According to the Governor, if strict measures are not taken now, the epidemic will have to be fought for months and months.
Those who live in Melbourne are left without the right to leave their home for more than five kilometers for shopping or outdoor sports for one hour. The city has banned weddings, and funerals can be attended by up to 10 people.
University education will be remote again from August 6, and kindergartens will be closed. There will be a third level of restrictions for people living outside of Melbourne.
Andrews said the duration of tough measures in Victoria could be shortened with fewer detected cases of coronavirus, but it is unlikely that the city will return to the third stage of restrictions.
