About 60 million tests to detect the new coronavirus have been conducted in the United States since the beginning of the pandemic. The corresponding message was posted on Twitter on Saturday by US President Donald Trump.
He was reacting to the statement of the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and infectious diseases of the United States Anthony Fauci, who spoke on Friday at a hearing in one of the committees of the House of representatives. The chief infectious disease specialist was asked to explain why there are more cases of infection in the US than in Europe. Fauci believes that this is due to the fact that not everyone in the country is implementing strict measures to contain the spread of infection.
“Wrong! We have more cases because we have tested more [residents] than any other country, 60 million. If we did fewer tests, there would be fewer [recorded] cases. How are things in Italy, France, and Spain? Now, unfortunately, there are outbreaks [of the disease] in Europe, “ the President wrote.
He stressed that most of the American governors “worked hard” in the fight against the coronavirus.
According to the Johns Hopkins University, which conducts calculations based on information from Federal and local authorities, more than 4.57 million cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the United States, and more than 153.6 thousand people died.
