The hacker who launched a massive attack on Twitter was detained in the US

The 17-year-old was detained in the US state of Florida. He is suspected of large-scale hacking of accounts of the social network Twitter — including Elon Musk and Bill Gates. According to investigators, he was the “brain” of the hacker attack on the social network.

This was reported by the hill borough County Prosecutor.

The teenager was detained by local police, Secret service, and FBI officers on the morning of July 31. Now he is under arrest — he has already been charged with 30 counts. These include illegal use of personal data, fraud, and hacking.

The 17-year-old's actions are described as “a sophisticated attack of unprecedented magnitude.” The Prosecutor's release says that he just graduated from high school. However, despite his age, the teenager is planned to be tried as an adult.

Shortly after his arrest, the US Justice Department announced that two other suspects were involved in the case. NIMA Fazeli, 22, and Mason Sheppard, 19, have already been charged. It is clarified that Fazeli acted under the nickname “Rolex”, and Sheppard — was hiding behind the name"Chaewon".

NIMA was charged with just one count of burglary. She is facing five years in prison, as well as a fine of $250,000. Mason is suspected of committing three crimes at once-hacking, conspiracy to defraud and money laundering. For this, he can be jailed for up to 20 years, as well as a fine of $250,000.

Shortly after the news of the arrest, Twitter spoke approvingly about the actions of the authorities. The social network promised to continue to cooperate with them, and also said that it would strive to be transparent and regularly inform about new details of the investigation.
