Three-day talks between the US and Russia on nuclear arms control has begun in Vienna, Austria. Negotiations are an important factor in international security.
The Voice of America writes about this.
It is noted that during the first round last month, the parties discussed the latest existing bilateral agreement — the start-3 Treaty (the agreement between the Russian Federation and the United States on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive weapons).
This Treaty limits the number of long-range nuclear warheads deployed and the number of carriers each country can have.
After talks on June 22-23 in Vienna, the US President's special representative for arms control, Marshall Billingsley, said that he and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov had made sufficient progress. The parties hope to replace the start Treaty before it expires in February with a new agreement.
Earlier it was reported that the US and Russia will hold a strategic meeting on countering the militarization of space.
