US President Donald Trump, who previously wrote a letter to the Turkish President, threatened Ankara with duties and sanctions in case of unacceptable behavior on her part. This was reported by Reuters.
According to the White House press pool, Trump noted that, in his opinion, Turkey will not behave improperly.
“I don’t think they will be,” the head of the Washington administration said.
He stressed that the strength of the United States lies in the economy.
“This is a great power,” he added.
Earlier, European Council President Donald Tusk said the EU is demanding that Turkey completely cease hostilities in Syria and considers the ceasefire announced by Ankara and Washington not a truce, but a demand for the complete surrender of the Kurds.
Earlier, Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan said: if the agreements reached with the United States on the withdrawal of Kurdish forces in Syria are not fulfilled, Turkey will continue the operation.
“If the United States fulfills its promises by Tuesday evening (October 22), the issue will be resolved. If not, Operation Source of Peace will continue, but with even greater determination,” Erdogan emphasized.
He also added that Turkey would not withdraw its forces from areas in northern Syria occupied as a result of the operation.
