Dozens of Abrams and BMD Bradley tanks relocated from Texas to eastern Lithuania
The United States began deploying its heavy military equipment in Lithuanian Pabrada, where NATO's Eager Leopard international military exercises had previously taken place.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Baltic State, on October 21 30 Abrams tanks and 25 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles arrived at the training ground near the border with Belarus.
The equipment is delivered to Riga by sea, and from there — by rail.
“This is a signal for Russia about the involvement of the United States (in the process of defense of the Baltic region). This is an additional deterrent,” said Lithuanian Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis, adding that several dozen tanks are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
The unit has about five hundred troops in the first battalion of the 9th Regiment of the 1st Division of the US Army, who was transferred from Fort Hood in Texas.
Within six months, the American and Lithuanian troops plan to conduct joint maneuvers.
The arrived unit is also called rotational, but any details are not specified.
Within the framework of the NATO Security Investment Program, 12 infrastructure projects are being implemented at the Pabrad training ground, which will allow several thousand military personnel and hundreds of pieces of equipment to train at the same time.
