A miniature device that allows you to instantly detect the presence of coronavirus infection in patients has been created by scientists from the George Washington University in the American district of Columbia. This information was distributed by the specialized medical portal Medical Xpress on the eve of July 24.
They made their discovery on the basis of a previously created device, covered with gold and consisting of conductors no thicker than a strand of hair. It can recognize substances in a gaseous state. The built-in indicator changes color in response to changes in these substances. After that, the artificial intelligence analyzes the reaction of the indicator and allows you to determine the presence of a particular substance.
In order to determine the presence of a coronavirus, the surface of the device is suggested to be coated with a reagent or solution containing proteins that specifically bind to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. When the indicator detects an infection, it changes color. These changes can be decrypted by using your phone's camera.
Scientists expressed confidence that the invention will further help to create tracked databases of people infected with the virus in real-time.
