A video taken by an eyewitness during a storm raging in New York captured the moment when lightning struck near the Statue of Liberty. This was reported on Wednesday by the New York Post.
On Wednesday, July 22, the National Weather Service issued a warning for residents of New York and the Hudson valley in connection with thunderstorms and strong winds “. It lasted from 17: 00 to 21: 00.
The statue of Liberty is installed on liberty island in the Upper New York Bay, 3 km southwest of Manhattan island. The monument is a gift to the people of the United States from the people of France. Its Grand opening took place on October 28, 1885.
Initially, the monument was used as a lighthouse: electric lighting was installed inside the “flame” in the torch. However, the torchlight was too weak. On July 30, 1916, the Statue of Liberty, especially the torch, was severely damaged when German saboteurs blew up military warehouses on black Tom island. In 1986, the monument was restored.
There are about 500 statues in the world that copy or resemble the Statue of Liberty.
