The US Department of Energy refused to provide Democrats from the House of Congress with the documents they requested in connection with an investigation into the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. This follows from a letter sent by the department to the legislators. The document was published on its website by the Politico newspaper.
The department argued its refusal primarily by the fact that the House of Representatives of the whole did not vote on the impeachment procedure, as well as the fact that the requested documents contain confidential information. “Even if the investigation were legally authorized, most of the information requested on the agenda consists of confidential messages from the executive branch, which are potentially protected by the privileges of the executive branch,” the letter said. At the same time, the document emphasizes that the Ministry “remains committed to working with Congress on issues” affecting common interests.
The corresponding agenda was sent to the department on October 10. Congressmen demanded to provide the necessary documents before October 18.
