The heads of the German regions asked the US not to withdraw its troops from Germany

An appeal to US senators and congressmen to prevent the partial withdrawal of American troops from Germany was signed by several regional leaders of Germany, the German newspaper Die Welt reported on July 19.

Several German publications, in particular the Stuttgarter Zeitung, Stuttgarter Nachrichten, and Suddeutscher Zeitung published information about the appeal of the heads of several regions of Germany to 13 US senators and congressmen.

The Prime Ministers of Bavaria, Baden — Wurttemberg, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate are among those who have applied. The heads of four regions of Germany signed a letter to American politicians.

The heads of these regions of Germany noted in their letter that the presence of the US military in Germany served the strategic interests of the United States and that its importance for the transatlantic partnership should not be underestimated.

Recall that in Germany there are about 35,000 American soldiers. US President Donald Trump has previously announced that he will withdraw 9500 of them. He justified this step by saying that Germany spends too little money on defense.
